Reflecting On Virginia’s 2021 Election

Williamsburg (November 3, 2021)

The votes from yesterday’s election have been counted, and although the outcome was not what we had hoped for, I’m incredibly proud of all that we achieved. Exceeding our targets, I received the highest turnout among Democratic challengers in Virginia and earned the most number of votes that a Democrat has ever received in the 96th District.

I’m grateful to my family, team, and volunteers for their support and hard work. Because of you, our message of ensuring good healthcare, good education, and good paying jobs resonated with voters and reached every corner of the 96th District, from Toano to Williamsburg, and Yorktown to Grafton.

There is still so much work to be done to move Virginia forward. It is critical that we all stay engaged in politics and ensure that our elected officials are listening to the concerns of their constituents. As a pediatrician and lifelong member of the 96th District, I will continue to advocate for the needs of those living in my community and look for new ways to serve.

Sincerely,

Mark C. Downey, M.D.
